Facing the Facts
Modern consumer electronics like MP3 players, computers, flat screen televisions, DVD players, and cell phones have enriched our lives. Most of us do not think of where these products come from and how they are made. The harsh reality is that many of the people who make these products we enjoy, live and work under harsh conditions and do not earn a living wage. In addition, the local environment is often polluted with hazardous toxic chemicals.
How You Can Make a Difference and Help End Sweatshops
Fair Workplace Council believes together we can make a difference. Companies pay attention to what we buy. We have enormous power by "voting" with our dollars. By buying products that are made under safe and sweatshop free conditions, we are sending a clear message: we as consumers choose sweatshop free products over those that are not.
But how do we know what products are made sweatshop free?
Fair Workplace Council will provide the means for us to make a conscious choice, when buying electronics, through a sweatshop free certification label. In order to use this label on their products, factories and sub-contractors will have undergone a stringent auditing and inspection process. Our processes and procedures will be transparent. All audit and inspection reports of certified products will be available on this website.
A Simple Choice: Fair Workplaces or Sweatshops?
By choosing Fair Workplace Council certified products you are rewarding manufacturers for doing the right thing. By making a simple conscious choice, you are helping to create a mechanism that will help to encourage safe and fair workplaces instead of sweatshops. |
